About Nicole Harrell

Communications professional with more than a decade of leadership experience in the nonprofit and media sectors.

CAREER:

I currently serve as the Director of PR and Marketing for The Salvation Army Western Pennsylvania Division, the local arm of the global nonprofit that serves thousands of families and individuals in need. I lead all marketing and communications initiatives for the region including awareness campaigns and collateral, media pitching, advertising, design and social media projects.

I have an extensive background in nonprofit communications and media. Before moving to Pittsburgh and joining The Salvation Army, I was the Communications Director for ArtsQuest, an arts nonprofit in eastern Pennsylvania widely known for Musikfest (the nation’s largest free music festival) and Christkindlmarkt (one of the country’s top holiday markets). I also previously led digital marketing and public relations for the Lehigh Valley region of Pennsylvania’s PBS station (where my office address was literally Sesame Street). I have experience in tourism as the former Marketing and Communications Manager for Visit Bucks County, the nonprofit marketing agency for Bucks County, Pa. (home to the many suburbs and regional tourist towns outside of Philadelphia).

Before relocating to Pennsylvania, I was proud to be named the first Digital Marketing Manager for WAVE 3 News, the NBC affiliate in Louisville, Ky. In this role, I had the opportunity to spearhead the digital marketing strategy for Raycom Media (now Gray Television), one of the nation’s largest media companies. I love journalism and throughout my career I have filled many positions in the news, production and sports departments for Louisville’s ABC affiliate, as well as stations in Lexington, Ky.

I earned a bachelor’s degree in Broadcast Journalism with a minor in Communications from the University of Kentucky (Go Big Blue). I also earned a Women in Leadership certificate from Cornell University.

PERSONAL:

Outside of work, you may catch me at a spin class, walking my rambunctious rescue pup, or exploring a new restaurant or festival with my husband in our current city of Pittsburgh. I was born in upstate New York, spent my formative teenage years in Virginia Beach and have a southern heart since I started my career in Louisville, the home of the Kentucky Derby. I’m always happy to chat about sports (especially if you’re a fan of the Kentucky Wildcats or the Buffalo Bills) and you’ll often find me cheering on my favs at a game or tournament.
